Atlanta nonprofit, Our House, has served Atlanta families facing homelessness since 1988. On the organization’s 30th anniversary, they asked my team to conceive of a fundraising campaign and event that could be repeated annually.

THE CHALLENGE

Make the issue feel immediate and personal, rather than abstract. Making sure people weren’t reduced to statistics, but seen as individuals with full lives and stories.

BIG IDEA:

Empathy drives action.

THE INSIGHT

It’s hard to truly relate to homelessness until you actually feel, even briefly, what instability is like.

THE CONCEPT

Wheels4Walls — a participatory campaign and fundraising event where people sleep in their cars for one night in solidarity, reflecting the reality that many families experiencing homelessness are living in a vehicle.

Sleep-in Solidarity.

Homelessness can feel abstract to those who cannot relate. Experiencing even a small part of it can inspire support.

The first Annual #Wheels4Walls took place in a parking lot across from Atlanta’s MLK Jr. National Historic Site.

YEAR ONE:

$10K+ RAISED
100+ PARTICIPANTS

Wheels4Walls started as an in-person event and continues to evolve as an annual cornerstone fundraiser for Our House. The strength of it is that it turns a simple, shared experience into both awareness and action.
